Browse and extract zip files

If you have to decompress files regularly, especially image files, you may find Zipeg interesting. It's definitely one of the nicest image decompressors I've used in a while and best of all, there's no registration or payment required.

The key feature of this program is a cool preview function which allows you to see what you are going to decompress before you do it. This is great if you can't remember what's in a file or are suspicious about its contents. It supports a huge variety of archive formats including: ZIP, RAR, WINRAR, ARJ, LHA/LZH, 7z, TAR, GZ, TGZ, BZIP2, CPIO, RPM, ISO, CHM, Z, CBR, CBZ, WAR and EAR.

You can extract/unzip items simply by dragging them and the interface is remarkably easy to use and good looking. It can process archives in the background whilst you work, sorts content of folders by name, size or date and automatically checks for the latest updates.

This is one of the best image compression utilities available for Mac, although the thumbnails can take some time to appear when you select a file.

Brutally Slow. I was trying to unzip a rar file that was 900MB uncompressed, only compressed to 800MB. I watched two TV episodes in the time it took to unsuccessfully decompress. It states that it was 99% done after about a minute. It managed to completely stall my computer and had to be closed using task manager. Seriously, use something else. I used Jzip and in the process of writing this review the files decompressed. Pros: N/A - first file I decompressed, and last... Cons: Slows computer to grinding halt, got my hopes up with 99% completion.

This is Good. This is a great app it unzip's files very quickly but the menu that pops up to configure opening the zip is a bit confusing and fiddly. It is good though and would recommend for opening zip files as well as lots of other files.

Seems very slow for me. I downloaded this software to be able to unzip a 7zip file created on windows machine. The 7zip was quite large (from 1.3GB to 600 MB where standard zip did 1GB) - mostly jpeg, pdf and eps files were contained in the zip. I dont know if it is zipegs problem (or 7zips) but uncompressing that file seems like neverending. It didnt finish after one hour! I guess it is ok software but probably not for so huge archives. Pros: supports many formats Cons: very slow. seems that it is not mac native, but a java software.

problem with 7z. It's a great app, but I cannot seem to unpack 7z files when they are password protected. The usual window for entering the pass does not pop-up.

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
